Resize Image for Passport Photo: DIY at Home
Passport photos are expensive. Pharmacies charge $15 for two tiny prints. You can take the photo yourself with your smartphone against a white wall. The tricky part is the formatting.
The US Requirements (and many others)
- Dimensions: Exactly 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm).
- Resolution: At 300 PPI (Pixels Per Inch), this means 600 x 600 pixels.
- Head Size: The head must be between 1 inch and 1.375 inches high.
- Background: Plain white.
Using Our Tools to Format
- Crop First: Use the Image Cropper. Set aspect ratio to 1:1 (Square). Center your eyes. Ensure there is white space above your hair.
- Resize Second: Use the Image Resizer.
- Set Width: 600 px.
- Set Height: 600 px.
- Save as JPG.
Printing
Now you have a perfect square. If you print this on a standard 4x6 inch photo paper at a kiosk (which costs $0.30), you can fit two of them side-by-side. Cut them out, and you saved $14.70.
