How to Convert Weight and Height for BMI Calculation
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple screening tool used to categorize weight status. The standard formula for BMI uses Metric Units.
BMI = kg / m²
(Weight in Kilograms divided by Height in Meters squared).
If You Know Your Stats in Imperial (Lbs/Feet)
If you are in the US, you probably know you weigh "180 lbs" and stand "5'11". You cannot plug these into the standard formula directly.
Step 1: Convert Weight
Go from Pounds to Kilograms.
180 lbs / 2.2046 = 81.65 kg.
Use Lbs to Kg Tool
Step 2: Convert Height
Go from Feet to Meters.
5' 11" is approximately 71 inches.
71 inches * 0.0254 = 1.80 meters.
Use Feet to Meters Tool
Step 3: Calculate
81.65 / (1.80 * 1.80) = 25.2 BMI.
Accuracy Matters
Because BMI squares your height, a small error in height conversion makes a big difference in the final score. Always use a precise converter rather than guessing.
